Dr. Idrissa Yussuf Hamad (PhD) is a Lecturer, Researcher, and Head of the Department of Research at the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA). His work focuses on coastal and marine ecosystem science, environmental monitoring, GIS and remote sensing, climate vulnerability, marine pollution, and sustainable natural resource management. He applies field-based ecological assessment, drone and geospatial technologies, and policy-relevant environmental analysis to support evidence-based decision-making in small island and coastal systems. Dr. Hamad has contributed to major national and regional initiatives, including climate adaptation planning, marine spatial planning, blue economy research, coastal ecosystem monitoring, and the Zanzibar State of Environment Report. Through his academic and institutional leadership roles, he is committed to advancing high-quality, applied environmental research that informs policy, strengthens research systems, and supports sustainable development and resilience in Zanzibar and the wider Western Indian Ocean region.
