Prof. Abubakar Diwani Bakari is a Professor, researcher and academic leader at The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA), currently serving as Dean of the School of Computing, Communication and Media Studies (SCCMS). He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computing Science and a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Dar es Salaam, and a PhD from Universiti Putra Malaysia. His research and professional interests include Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things (IoT), Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, climate change, health informatics, environmental monitoring and ICT for sustainable development. He has led and contributed to multidisciplinary research and innovation initiatives addressing environmental and community challenges. Prof. Bakari is actively involved in promoting student innovation, entrepreneurship and research through initiatives such as the WasteX Lab, supporting solutions in waste management, WASH, circular economy, agriculture and climate resilience. As Dean, he is committed to strengthening research excellence, innovation, digital transformation, international collaboration and community impact at SUZA.
