Abdulrahman S. Khamis holds a doctoral degree in education from the University of Dar es Salaam, an MA in Education from the University of Dodoma, and a BA with Education from the State University of Zanzibar. He is the Head of the Department of Educational Foundations, Instruction and Leadership (DEFIL) and a Lecturer in the School of Education at the State University of Zanzibar, Tanzania. He has extensive experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate education courses, including educational psychology in inclusive settings, philosophy of education, principles of educational research, guidance and counselling, professionalism and ethics in education, and curriculum studies. He also supervises master’s research projects and serves as a capacity building specialist in innovative pedagogy and competence-based assessment across the university. Locally and regionally, Abdulrahman Khamis is an active member of the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE – Zanzibar Chapter) and collaborates with local and international partner organizations to advocate for educational equity and gender-responsive practices. He has worked closely with FAWE Zanzibar, Good Neighbors Tanzania, and the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children to facilitate capacity-building programs, develop instructional guides, and promote gender mainstreaming in early childhood and higher education settings. As an expert in curriculum review, inclusive education, and active learning, he served on the SUZA Curriculum Review Team and the Building Stronger Universities Problem-Based Learning Taskforce. He continues to work with partner institutions and colleges across Unguja and Pemba to provide professional development in gender-responsive pedagogy, e-learning, and clinical guidance and counselling to enhance teaching quality across Zanzibar.
