Dr. Sarah Nilambile Seme is a Lecturer in History and Environmental Studies, specialized in History, Environment and Climate Studies. She holds a PhD in Climate Change and Sustainable Development from the University of Dar es salaam (UDSM), Tanzania; MA in History (Environmental) from UDSM and BA in Education (Hons) from the Open University of Tanzania (OUT). Dr. Seme has conducted researches and published a book and papers relevant to her areas of specialization. Her research interests include history, environment, climate change and climate finance. She previously served as a head of the former Department of Arts (now Social Sciences from Jan. 2011 to June, 2013 at the School of Natural and Social Sciences of the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA). From 2006 to 2014, Dr. Seme was involved in the major regional SADC Hashim Mbita Research Project to research, document, preserve and publish the history of the liberation struggles of Southern Africa between 1960 and 1994, as a national historical researcher based in Zanzibar. (The project was named after Brigadier-General Hashim Mbita, a Tanzanian Military Officer and Diplomat who served as Executive Secretary of the OAU Liberation Committee from 1972 to 1994). The research project culminated in a nine-volume publication launched in 2014. She was also involved in TRANSLED (Transformation, Language, Education and Development), a five-year project (2014–2018), NORHED project funded by NORAD involving SUZA, the University of Oslo (UiO) and (UDSM). Dr. Seme is a Co PI of the Tanzania Climate Change Finance Noticeboard for Enhanced Climate Action (CLIFiNA), a four year project (2024/25 to 2027/28) funded through collaboration of COSTECH, Sida, and Norad, through the National Fund for the Advancement of Science and Technology (NFAST). Dr. Seme is also teaching undergraduate and post graduate students and supervise student researches.
